MEETING PLACE | DU CANE BREWING & DINING HALL MURAL

Towards the end of 2022, I was approached to paint a large indoor mural for the opening of Du Cane Brewing & Dining Hall in Launceston. The paintable surface measures approximately 4.5m wide by about 3 meters high and has been done in the brands colours as well as, coincidently, the same colours that Tom O’Hern used in his mural, commissioned the prior year by Junction Arts Festival.

Meeting place is a representation and honouring of the sacred waterways that meander through country, meeting and combining forces, to become kanamaluka. The lines are a layering of histories, knowledge, lives and cultural practices. Similar to the rings within the log of a tree, they represent deep time and a deep connection to place. They are beginning to merge together. A coming together, if you will. A glimpse into the future whilst acknowledging our deep history.
